How To Get Rid Of Chest Acne

Chest acne, or any acne for that matter, is caused by oil called sebum. The oil, usually when produced in excess, can mix with dead skin cells and as a result, plug up hair follicles and lead to acne. This frustrating process is not limited to the face; your chest is also full of pores that can otherwise become clogged.

Other causes for chest acne include clothes that are too tight and hug the chest, sweat and toxins that are not washed frequently enough from the chest region, or dirty clothing or using sheets and bedding that may be dirty. Something rubbing up against the skin may also cause acne and is referred to as acne mechanica. Luckily, there are various ways to get rid of chest acne.

Home Remedies for Chest Acne

Anyone trying to get rid of chest acne should mix a solution of sugar and honey. While the honey provides antiseptic properties, and can reduce redness and inflammation, sugar works to exfoliate the skin and rub away dead skin cells that could otherwise clog pores. An equal amount of honey and sugar - a couple of tablespoons each - must be combined for an effective scrub. Carefully rub the cream onto your chest while in the shower. Allow the scrub to be absorbed into your skin while you're rinsing other parts of your body and washing your hair. Be sure to wash the mixture off completely before you hop out of the shower. Try this home treatment once or twice weekly for both treatment and prevention of chest acne.

Another home treatment to try is a mixture of garlic and vinegar. Use white vinegar in order to clear blemishes, and combine it with large amounts of garlic to help fight inflammation. A cotton swab or a cotton ball can make the perfect tools when applying this to your chest. Just dip the cotton swab or cotton ball into the vinegar and garlic mix, and then apply it to the affected areas. This mixture can help to dry your skin as well which can help reduce sebum oil. However, if you find that it dries up your skin a little too much, then try adding a dab of olive oil to the treatment next time.

Best Treatment for Chest Acne

Good hygiene ethics are important for treating and preventing chest acne. This means cleansing the area once or twice daily. Try not to wash the area anymore than twice a day, as washing your skin too often can actually make breakouts worse by drying and irritating the skin. Another route for anyone looking to get rid of chest acne is to visit the chemist. Available treatments are typically lotions, soaps, creams, pads or gels that can be used to treat the chest acne. Perhaps the 2 most important ingredients found in the most effective products are benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

Keep in mind that these medications may not get rid of chest acne overnight. In fact, it's strongly recommended to wait 2 months before determining what treatment works for you. The worst case scenario is that the medication will not work after 8 or so weeks; then you can either try a new medication or see a dermatologist for a prescribed treatment for your chest acne.
