How To Get Rid Of Mild Acne

Mild acne is often seen as more of an inconvenience than a medical problem as there is little discomfort or long-term symptoms. Caused by a buildup of sebum, a natural moisturizer made deep within the pores, and mixed with dead skin cells and dirt, mild acne often appears as small white bumps or black spots on the surface of the skin. Mild acne occurs in people of all ages and is often exacerbated by stress. The good news is that it is not as difficult to figure out how to get rid of mild acne as it can be for more severe types of acne.

Home Remedies for Mild Acne

Home remedies for mild acne are available in abundance, and choosing the right approach will vary from person to person. However, there are a few more well known methods that have been proven to work.

Tea tree oil has antibiotic properties which can kill off acne causing bacteria. At the same time, tea tree oil acts as a natural moisturizer to replenish moisture lost to cleansing and harsh astringents. As natural oil, tea tree oil is easily absorbed by the skin and is usually purified to eliminate impurities that could cause acne. To use this method, poor a miniscule amount of tee tree oil into the cap of the bottle and add water. Then take a cotton swab and apply the tee tree oil to the acne. This method works best if your face or affected area has been washed thoroughly before hand.

Apple cider vinegar is an antibacterial substance that can be used in much the same was as tea tree oil. Dilute some apple cider vinegar with water and apply to the mild acne with a cotton swab.

Witch hazel is another home remedy option and is an excellent astringent. It rinses residue from the pores and then shrinks the pores to help reduce the chances of more dirt and residue clogging the pores. Witch hazel can also treat current acne symptoms by drying out whiteheads and reducing their size and the surface inflammation.

Best Treatment for Mild Acne

Most often, the best choice for getting rid of mild acne is the most simple. Over-the-counter (OTC) treatment kits that use a cleanser, astringent and moisturizer are often extremely effective and relatively inexpensive. Results can usually be seen in a matter of weeks, if not a matter of days.

For blackheads, there are adhesive strips that can be used to remove the dirt that clog the pores in a matter of minutes. This treatment only works for blackheads, but it is incredibly effective at providing immediate results. When followed by an over-the-counter regimen, skin can remain clean and clear indefinitely. However, if the acne symptoms persist, it may be best to schedule a visit to a dermatologist to ask for help determining how to get rid of mild acne.

A doctor can prescribe stronger topical treatments like retinoids, oral medications like Accutane and even dermatological treatments like skin resurfacing or laser exfoliation; however these are usually only necessary for more serious or stubborn acne. Keep in mind that while there are common causes and treatments, one treatment might be more effective for a particular person than another. With this in mind, sometimes the best plan of action involves trial and error.
